FRESH stands for Freeform Reversible Embedding of Suspended Hydrogels, which allows the syringe pump extruder to precisely extrude highly detailed objects in a variety of materials at varying viscosities. Altogether, the LulzBot Bio can create multi-scale vasculature, fully functional heart tissue, and much more. As it's open source, the Bio can be made to extrude other additional extracellular matrix components, such as hyaluronic acid and fibrin, photo-curable resins, thermosets, silicon and epoxies, and more.
